On Tuesday 10 March 2026, the Shire of Merredin had the pleasure of welcoming 31 medical students from the University of Notre Dame to town as part of the Wheatbelt Medical Immersion Program, run by Rural Health West.
Our very own Cummins Theatre Coordinator, Peter, gave the group a warm welcome and shared some insights about our region before taking them on a tour of the historic Cummins Theatre. The students then headed out on foot for a walking tour of Merredin, which included (of course!) a stop at Apex Park | Danjoo Waabininy Boodja to test out the playground equipment.
This program is a truly life-changing experience for these students, with the goal of inspiring them to pursue future careers in rural Western Australia. It’s wonderful to see the next generation of healthcare professionals getting a taste of everything our community has to offer.
As they head back to Perth tomorrow morning, we hope they leave with some great memories of their time in Merredin and consider returning to regional Western Australia once their studies are completed.
