The Shires of Bruce Rock, Merredin and Narembeen are pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Wilson as the region’s new Community Emergency Services Manager (CESM), commencing 29 September 2026.
Alex will work closely with our local communities, volunteer bushfire brigades, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and the three Shires to help build a safer, stronger and more prepared region.
The CESM role is an important one for our communities. CESMs work in partnership with DFES and local governments to support emergency services compliance requirements, while also helping to develop the capability and capacity of local volunteer bushfire brigades.
For our communities, this means supporting the people who volunteer their time to protect their neighbours, families, farms and local towns.
Alex will work alongside brigade members and local government staff to support training, planning, preparedness, equipment and compliance, as well as identifying opportunities to strengthen the capacity of our volunteer brigades into the future.
The three Shires recognise the vital role our volunteers play during bushfires and other emergencies and are committed to ensuring they receive the support they need to continue this important work.

“We are delighted to welcome Alex to the Community Emergency Services Manager role and to the Bruce Rock, Merredin and Narembeen communities.
Our volunteer bushfire brigades are an integral part of our communities and play a vital role in protecting lives, property and livelihoods during emergencies. We recognise the tremendous commitment of our volunteers, who give their time and skills to support their communities and are often called upon to respond in challenging and demanding circumstances.
We are confident that Alex will be a valuable asset to our three Shires. We look forward to seeing him develop strong relationships with our local brigades and volunteers, understand the unique needs of our communities and work collaboratively with DFES and our local governments to further strengthen emergency preparedness and response across the region.
While supporting compliance and emergency management responsibilities is an important part of the CESM role, ultimately the focus is on people, supporting our volunteers, building local capability and ensuring our communities are well prepared, connected and resilient when emergencies occur.
We look forward to working with Alex and our dedicated volunteers as we continue to strengthen emergency services across our region.”
