Welcome to the Shire of MERREDIN

Councillor Brad Anderson celebrates 10 years of service

Published on Friday, 17 October 2025 at 3:00:00 PM

Councillor Brad Anderson was first elected 14 years ago, stepping in at a time when there were vital decisions to be made for several large projects. Cr Anderson was involved in the initial ideas and planning stage for the Apex Park | Danjoo Waabininy Boodja redevelopment, which commenced around eight years ago, and he was pleased to see this project come to fruition in recent years.

After his initial 8-year tenure, Cr Anderson returned for a further 2 years because he still had great value to offer. When asked about a highlight during his service, he shared, “I was proud to be part of the CEACA project, bringing this from an idea to a local-level, and then a regional-level project. This initiative now provides essential support for independent living in the Wheatbelt.”

“It was good to have someone with previous experience step into the role,” Cr Crook said of Cr Anderson’s return to Council. “His contact with the community on a daily basis was invaluable. This not only included the local community but insights into our neighbouring communities.”

Cr Anderson enjoyed working alongside other Shires because he believes the achievements of one provide opportunities for all. He said, “Merredin is a wonderful place to live and work because it’s a hub of innovation. I was there from the early talks for the solar farm, and I’m excited for the construction of the Battery Energy Storage System because projects like this help Merredin grow and adapt for the future.”

“Merredin has exceptional facilities and local businesses, so it was important to me to support them.” Cr Anderson represented their interests while on Council, including advocating for the resurfacing of the bowling green and basketball courts, because he recognises how important sport is for Merredin’s culture and community spirit.

As a third-generation Merredin-born resident, Cr Anderson has deep connections to the region and has represented various community groups over the years before running for Council. He believes Merredin’s transient nature creates balance between long-term locals and short-term turnover to bring fresh perspectives and energy into the region.

Cr Anderson encourages everyone to nominate for Council because it’s the best way to support your community and have your voice heard in a productive way. Above all, he believes in making connections and always asking “What’s next?”

Cr Anderson greatly appreciated having the community’s support throughout his tenure but has decided not to re-run at the 2025 Local Government Elections in order to pursue his next project. He’d like to thank the Councillors and Administration staff he’s worked alongside over the years and wishes the incoming Council all the best. Cr Anderson would also like to thank his wife, children and extended family for encouraging him on this long but rewarding journey.

On behalf of everyone at the Shire Council and Administration, we thank Cr Anderson for his unwavering commitment while on Council. We wish Cr Anderson and his family every success for the future and with his next project.
