Who makes a difference in our community?
Let’s celebrate our local champions who spend their time making our lives in the Merredin community even better!
Nominations are open for the Auspire Community Citizen of the Year award 2023.
Community Citizen of the Year awards is your opportunity to acknowledge those making an outstanding contribution to our local community. We want you to tell us all about them, so next January we can all celebrate and acknowledge their commitment to our community.
There are four award categories that you may nominate a community member or group/event.
- Citizen of the Year- a person you believe has delivered outstanding service to their community
- Youth Citizen of the Year (under 25 as of 26 January 2023) - a young person you believe has delivered outstanding service to their community
- Senior Citizen of the Year (over 65 as of 26 January 2023) - an older person you believe has delivered outstanding service to their community
- Active Citizenship (group or event) - a group doing outstanding work or for an event staged in the community during the past year.
Shire President Cr Mark McKenzie said he is constantly impressed by the continual commitment in the community to help others.
“Last year’s winners, Youth Citizen Maddie Earle-Sadler, Citizen of the Year - Tyler Winter, Senior Citizen - Jane Patroni , and Active Citizenship - Petticoat Lane, demonstrate how lucky we are to have these selfless individuals walking and working amongst us in such a humble and effective manner. I know there are many more people or events in our Merredin community to acknowledge so I encourage you to submit a nomination for them this year.”
Maddie Earle-Sadler, the Young Community Citizen of the Year 2022, said being awarded that honour was extremely unexpected.
“As a young person I believe that you get out of a community what you put in. Creating a community where people feel safe and encouraged is one of the fantastic outcomes from this award. I certainly believe it is very important to recognise people who are making a difference in your community and around you. These sorts of awards are an excellent opportunity to recognise those people.”
