Farewell, Calvin!

This month we farewelled a valued member of our team, Calvin Shotter, the Executive Manager of Engineering Services. Calvin began working at the Shire in August 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. He came into the role with big shoes to fill, and consistently stepped up to the challenge from the first day he walked through the door!

It wasn't long before he appointed himself as the office jokester, making it his mission to get everyone to laugh at least once a day. Calvin brought with him a radiating energy of positivity and a beaming smile that was the highlight of everyone’s day.

When asked about what he thought his biggest achievement was while working at the Shire of Merredin, Calvin humbly said he could not single himself out of any achievements, as everything was a team effort. “I’m proud of the work that my team and I have done, including the cemetery upgrades, and the main street especially improving the Visitor Centre lawn.”

Calvin was also very honoured to be part of the Piazza project and said it was a lot of hard work to get it up and running, but was well worth it to see so many community members enjoying the space.

Although his time living in the Shire was short, Calvin said he had a few favourite spots that he will never forget. “It blows me away every time I come up over the hill and see the wind farm. That is so impressive to me, when you come up past the airport and see that, there something about them, they are so specky!”

Calvin and his wife made the tough decision to leave the Shire after a once in a lifetime opportunity close to their heart presented itself. Although we will miss Calvin very much, we wish him all the best with his future endeavors.
