Parks and Gardens Officer/Gardener

The Shire of Merredin is offering an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person to join the Parks and Gardens team. If successful, you will work across a range of worksites assisting in the development, maintenance and construction of parks, gardens, building surrounds, streetscapes and other assets.  You will also provide relief cover for the Shire’s construction and maintenance teams.

Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Shire of Merredin Outside Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016 (currently under negotiation) with the current salary being at Level 3-4 (plus industry allowance). A position description is available on our website: www.merredin.wa.gov.au. Position Description


Emergency Services Officer

Commencing: Immediately

The Shire of Merredin are seeking an Emergency Services Officer to join our Community Services directorate for a fixed term of six months (parental leave cover- from early June to early January).

Working under the direction of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for day-to-day emergency services activities and supporting the Shire of Merredin SES and Bush Fire Brigades; carrying out special projects identified through Council, the local and SES unit as well as the Local Emergency Management Committee. The officer will also be expected to work effectively to support the Shire’s Ranger in the area of fire prevention and control.

The ideal candidate will have working experience in a similar environment.

Position Description


Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre Tourism Support Officer (Casual Pool)

Casual
Level: Level 4 $31.36 - $35.52 per hour

The Shire of Merredin is seeking candidates with customer service experience and an interest in tourism and visitor servicing, to support our Visitor Centre team, on a casual relief basis.

The successful applicant/s will have excellent time management skills, and the ability to work under pressure and be a quick learner. Knowledge of Local Government practices and/or experience in tourism, hospitality or office administration is preferred.  Local knowledge of the Shire of Merredin and the wider Wheatbelt region is desirable.  The ability to work in a supportive team environment with a degree of flexibility on working days and hours is a must.

The casual employment period will initially cover three weeks of full-time training, with casual appointments until peak wildflower season, July-September 2022. During this time, casuals will be called upon to support a 7 day rotational roster. Ongoing employment may continue from October 2022.

If you have experience with customer service, cash handling; and knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications, you are encouraged to apply.

Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Local Government Industry (WA) Award 2020 with the casual pay rate being $31.36 - $35.52 per hour (depending on skills and experience) plus superannuation.
