This is an exciting time to join the Shire of Merredin.

The Shire of Merredin is the largest regional centre and major commercial and retail hub in the Central Eastern Wheatbelt of WA. It is a vibrant rural community situated centrally between Perth and Kalgoorlie.

Merredin services a hinterland of over 15,000 people, is the regional base for government and commercial organisations, and supports quality facilities for business, education, health, transport, recreation and tourism.

Reporting to Council and with the support of the Executive team, the CEO will engage with the community and provide strong leadership to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the Shire. You will seek out opportunities for commercial growth, maintain an effective and responsive administration and provide prudent and timely advice on all relevant issues to Council with particular emphasis on financial management, economic development and governance. With a flexible management style, you will also create and maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders to improve the quality of life for the people within the Shire and Central Wheatbelt.

To be considered for this role you will need a strategic focus and have the ability to drive and foster creativity and innovation. This will be matched by your strong background in financial management, sound commercial acumen, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

The Shire is seeking someone who is willing to integrate and be part of the community with a preference that the Chief Executive Officer resides within the Shire of Merredin during the tenure of the employment contract.

The total reward package range offered in accordance with the Band 3 role is $157,920 to $259,278 per annum, plus allowances can benefits under a performance based contract of up to 5 years.

Position Status: Full Time

The Shire of Merredin is seeking an experienced person to join our Administration Team. The successful applicant should have well developed communications, time management, and developed numeracy and reconciliation skills.

Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Local Government Industry (WA) Award 2020 with the current starting salary being (Level 7) $56,589 per annum plus superannuation.

Position Description - Records Officer


Customer Service and Administration - (Casual Pool)

Commencing: Immediately 
Position Status: Casual

The Shire of Merredin is seeking candidates with customer service experience and who would fit in well with our multi-skilled, busy environment on a casual relief basis.  Successful candidates may be called on to help in Administration, the Visitors’ Centre or Cummins Theatre depending on their skills, experience, interests, and availability.

The successful applicant/s will have excellent time management skills, and the ability to work under pressure and be a quick learner. Knowledge of Local Government practices and/or experience in tourism, hospitality or office administration is preferred.  Local knowledge of the Shire of Merredin and the wider Wheatbelt region is desirable.  The ability to work in a supportive team environment with a degree of flexibility on working days and hours is a must.

If you have experience with customer service, cash handling and reconciling procedures; and knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications, you are encouraged to apply.

Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Local Government Industry (WA) Award 2020 with the casual pay rate being $32.51 to $38.10 per hour (depending on the role, skills and experience) plus superannuation.

Gardener

Commencing: Immediately 
Position Status: Full Time

The Shire of Merredin is seeking an experienced person to join our Parks and Gardens Team. The successful applicant should have well-developed gardening and landscaping skills, including pruning, fertilizing, mowing, as well as sound knowledge of horticulture, parks and gardens and maintenance techniques.

Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Shire of Merredin Operational Works Crew Collective Agreement 2016 with the current salary being Level 3 plus industry allowance.

The Shire of Merredin is seeking an experienced person to join our Roads and Construction Crew. The successful applicant should have a well-developed knowledge of operating loaders, backhoes, skid steers and rollers, as well as possess skills relating to roads and construction such as bitumen spraying and sealing.
