HOT SUCCESS! WA"S Biggest Solar Farm set to get Underway in Merredin

Today's warmer weather wasn't enough to stop invited guests from attending the official Risen Energy Ground Breaking Ceremony at the chosen site for what will soon be WA's biggest solar farm.

The Ground Breaking Ceremony followed two information sessions conducted by Risen Energy for community members and also for local contractors interested in working on the project which were held earlier this morning and yesterday evening.

Risen Energy General Manager, Mr Eric Lee, did the honours of turning the first sod for the ceremony together with Hon Mia Davies MLA and Shire of Merredin President, Cr Ken Hooper.

The 132 MWdc Solar Farm is situated approximately 5km south/south west of Merredin and once constructed, will cover an area of approximately 350ha. Merredin is well-placed to send power throughout the state’s power grid, the South West Interconnected System, as it sits at the intersection of major high voltage transmission lines to Perth, Collie and Kalgoorlie.

The solar farm is the largest solar farm committed to construction in Western Australia and once connected, will have an expected output of 281GWh of electricity annually, generating enough energy to power approximately 42,000 Western Australian homes.

Construction of the solar farm is expected to conclude late in 2019 or early 2020.
