On Wednesday, 21 October 2020, the Shire of Merredin & Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre hosted one of several Tourism WA 'Our Story' Deep Dive regional workshops.

It was a pleasure to have Tourism WA, Australia’s Golden Outback (AGO) and our Eastern Wheatbelt Tourism partners and stakeholders under the one roof and for the one purpose. Tourism WA presenters, Tabetha Beggs, Kym Francesconi and Helena McCabe attended to present this Deep Dive Session and get a feel for all that makes the Wheatbelt a special place to visit.

The Deep Dive workshop was our opportunity to provide Tourism WA with our very own ‘Wheatbelt Story’ and how we want it told. We told them how passionate we are about our region and how all our stories connect to the amazing landscapes and landforms, cultural and natural history, our stunning wildflower displays and our agricultural and built history. When completed these stories will be added to the Tourism WA Our Story assets for use in future marketing campaigns and other promotional opportunities.

The CEO of AGO,  Marcus Falconer also attended this session. As our Regional Tourism Organisation, AGO have a key role to play in marketing the Wheatbelt and this was a good
opportunity for Marcus to hear our ‘Wheatbelt story’ through this workshop with Tourism WA.

The Cummins Theatre was the perfect location as it is  such a beautiful building and asset for the Tourism WA team to familiarise themselves with.

There was a bonus for Tourism WA’s team arriving Tuesday afternoon to attend the Djuki Mala Aboriginal Dance performance in our stunning Cummins Theatre.

We hope this has made a lasting impression, and that the Tourism WA team will want to come back for another taste of a touring production and spread the word about this amazing cultural facility.

The workshop was extremely well attended by 38 of our Eastern Wheatbelt tourism partners, tourism business owners and stakeholders, highlighting to TWA our passion about tourism in the Eastern Wheatbelt.

This was by far the largest number of workshop participants in any of the regional Deep Dive Sessions in the state to date. Everyone found the experience extremely worthwhile and well run by the Tourism WA presenter and there should be plenty of material for Tourism WA to go away and craft a 'Wheatbelt Story' from all the ideas and content gathered on the day.
