Shire Awarded Funding to Tackle Local Litter Issues

Published on Friday, 4 October 2019 at 2:31:29 PM

The Shire of Merredin is one of 12 community organisations sharing in nearly $50,000 of state funding to tackle local litter issues.

The grant is delivered through the Keep Australia Beautiful Council’s Community Litter Grant Scheme.

The funding will go towards the Shire’s ‘Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute’ program, educating the community on the waste that single use plastic creates, while offering a drinking fountain and water refill station as an immediate solution to the problem.

The Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said "this year's successful projects have a strong focus on litter education and prevention, which will help stop littering in the first place.”

For more information, please call the Shire on 9041 1611.
