The Merredin District Olympic Pool has been awarded a Gold Waterwise Status for the Waterwise Council Program for 2019/20.

Pool Manager John Simmonds said, "This is a major achievement for our Shire and is the result of sustained hard work over a number of pool seasons. We try and run the pool as efficiently as possible and it’s nice to be recognised.”

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Water Corporation runs the Waterwise Council Program to aid and support local governments to improve water efficiency. The Shire was awarded Gold Status for demonstrating a sustained commitment in reducing water use and implementing effective water management.

Natural Resource Management Officer Dylan Copeland said effective water management is achieved through the use of a data logger which enables the Shire to regularly monitor the Pool’s water usage throughout the day.

“Data loggers give us the ability to monitor the water usage daily, broken down into fifteen-minute increments. By being able to observe our water use this regularly it allows us to identify water usage patterns and spot leaks,” he said.

The Pool will be formally awarded the Gold status at the Waterwise Recognition Breakfast in May 2021.

How You Can Help
