MEDIA STATETMENT: SECONDARY PLATFORM AT MERREDIN STATION

Published on Thursday, 4 November 2021 at 3:39:45 PM

The WA State Government has announced that the Public Transport Authority regional safety improvement program will be extended to include the construction of the secondary platform at the Merredin Railway Station.
.
This raised platform, which will also include new LED lighting, will allow for safe access to trains for people with mobility issues.
.
Shire President Mark McKenzie spoke about what the announcement means for the town.
.
“Both the Council and the community have been lobbying for the second platform at the station for many years, and through the extensive community consultation in 2020 for the Strategic Community Plan, it was once again identified as a priority moving forward.”
.
“This is extremely exciting news for Merredin, and will allow for inclusion for those with disabilities, or injuries, and those of an older age,” President McKenzie said.
.
Tenders for the design and construction of the platform are scheduled to be released in early November and the project is expected to be completed April 2022.
