In light of the recently declared global pandemic surrounding COVID-19 and the Australian Government announcing strong advice to cancel all non-essential mass gatherings likely to attract over 500 people, the Shire of Merredin has made the difficult decision to reschedule the upcoming Merredin Twilight International Food Festival scheduled for Friday 20 March 2020.

Shire President, Julie Flockart stated

‘The annual Merredin Twilight International Food Festival is a time where our diverse community come together to celebrate our unique cultural backgrounds.

However, it is with regret that we announce the postponing of this event.

We have taken into consideration that the event is considered large scale, attracting many individuals from our local community, the wider district and beyond.

As such, the risk to our community is too great.

We appreciate that this is a great disappointment, at this time, for our community who volunteer to enable this event.

However, the health and wellbeing of our community and particularly those at risk is our number one priority at this time.

We would like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors Collgar Windfarm and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, for their ongoing support of our community events.’
