A group of Curtin University medical students will be visiting Merredin between Friday the 30th of August and Sunday the 1st of September as part of a pilot project studying health services in the Wheatbelt.
This project comes off the back of the Wheatbelt Medical Student Immersion Program, after a small group of Curtin medical students expressed an interest in rural health and the experience of those living in the Wheatbelt.
The health inequalities of rural and remote Australia are well recognised and a particular inequity in parts of the Wheatbelt is the limited access and availability of primary medical services.
This project will involve five students interviewing 12 Wheatbelt residents from Merredin and Westonia, to understand the local health experience and concerns.
Participants in this project must meet the following criteria:
The team would like to interview 3-4 adult residents of Merredin with chronic health conditions and 3-4 people aged 18-25 who live in Merredin.
They are also looking to interview four elderly residents from Westonia.
The Curtin University team will also be looking for four key informants who live in either Westonia or Merredin. These informants will be people who are long time Wheatbelt residents or professionals with a long term involvement in the area.
If you think you can help the Curtin medical students with their research into Wheatbelt health services, and you meet the above criteria, please call the Shire on 9041 1611 or send us a message on Facebook.
