Pop - Up Piazza
As we draw closer to the conclusion of the pop-up piazza project, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone in the community who has provided feedback on the temporary space. In total we had more than 600 surveys completed and returned from our local community, as well as a number of local governments across the region and beyond, spanning across all age brackets.

Over the course of the four month piazza project, we were able to hold a number of successful events and activities including Gala Night, the Australia Day sundowner, a pop up basketball court for 3 point Fridays, and the Medical Students even had their welcoming in the event space. The twilight markets were also held there in February, and what a fantastic night it was!

We are grateful to our project partners RAC and their Reconnect WA Initiative for funding this fantastic community space. RAC's Reconnect WA initiative was created to help revitalise streets and public spaces to better connect people and places.

The Shire would also like to thank our other sponsors including, the Community Gardens, Merredin Men’s Shed, and Walker Electrical Contractors for their contributions to the project. A number of other local tradespeople and suppliers have also been involved in delivering this project including Ben Jardine Carpentry & Maintenance, Phil Sayers Welding, Two Dogs, Wheatbelt Steel, Sheree Lowe, Merredin Freightlines, Nutrien Ag, and Wheatbelt Uniforms, Signs and Safety.

The piazza is due to be disassembled between 6 and 7 of April. The parklets will be moved around town in front of other businesses once the piazza is disassembled.

Cemetery Upgrades
Upgrade works have now commenced at Merredin Cemetery. The first of these projects involves the installation of a tank on-site with a solar pump to irrigate existing lawn sections, with the intention to improve the health and appearance of by the Community Water Supply Program grant from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

The second upgrade project, funded as part of the federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure, will see new sections in the cemetery created which will allow for more available plots, as well as the resealing of the roads. The fences around the cemetery will also be upgraded, as well as the front entrance.

These upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the end of the financial year.
