Welcome to the Shire of MERREDIN

A Message from the Shire President

Since the end of March Councillors have been coming together weekly for informal meetings with the purpose of guiding the Shire's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions have been eased, these weekly informal meetings have a new objective in place. The focus has shifted to the review of the Strategic Community Plan, which has been strongly impacted by the need to concentrate on recovery and regeneration following COVID-19 and outline the future direction of the Shire.

The State and Federal Governments are encouraging Council’s to be bold in their project planning, with an inherent need for projects that will help generate construction jobs for local builders, and also create more jobs in the community through increased economic activity.

There are a number of grant funding opportunities emerging for both the Shire and for Community Groups also. We will be working toward securing external funding for worthwhile projects which may include, but are not limited to, the CBD redevelopment, and the Apex Park redevelopment.

As part of the Strategic Community Plan review, Council are readily preparing for an engagement campaign which will focus on creating a discussion with the community, collecting feedback, and exploring new opportunities for the Shire of Merredin. The campaign is set to take place in late June / early July, with the goal of having a plan of action in place by the end of July.

This engagement campaign will be multi-faceted, allowing the Shire to gather information from as many different groups as possible. The tools that we will be using to collect this information include surveys, tailored sessions, and interactive workshops.

More information about this campaign and the workshops will be shared on the Shire of Merredin website and social media pages over the next few days, so make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to be involved as we look to build a bigger and brighter future for Merredin.
