Merredin Regional Library

The Merredin Regional Library is the largest library in the central Wheatbelt.

The Shire of Merredin provides residents with a free public library service, as part of the state wide network of public libraries jointly provided by local governments and the State Library of Western Australia.

There is a return chute located next to the front door for returning items when the library is closed.

JOINING THE LIBRARY

Membership is free. A parent/guardian's signature is required if you are under 18. To become a member you need to provide proof of your address:

  • WA Drivers License
  • Bank statement
  • Social Security card
  • Rates notice
  • Western Power/Telephone account
  • Rental Receipt

You also need to provide a second contact address.

You can download a membership form here. Please bring the completed form with identification to the library.

BORROWING

Merredin Library 

The type of member you are will determine what you can borrow.

New members can borrow a maximum of:

  • 3 Books
  • 1 Video or DVD
  • 1 Audio book or CD Rom
  • 2 Children's books per child per family

(Note - new members will reach full membership after a 3 month qualifying period)

Full members can borrow a maximum of:

  • 4 Books
  • 2 DVD's
  • 1 CD-Rom
  • 2 Audio books
  • 3 Children's books per child per family

There is a limit of 3 non fiction items on the same subject per family.

All loans are for 2 weeks.  Items can be renewed 3 times by phone, by email or in person provided no other member has requested them.

  • Books for loan; fiction and non-fiction
  • Reference material; not for loan but may be consulted in the library
  • Large print books
  • Audio books on cassette and CD
  • Videos and DVD's
  • CD-ROM's
  • Books in languages other than English
  • Language Learning Center for learning another language or to learn English as a second language
  • Junior and Young Adult collections
  • Access to electronic resources such as the Encyclopaedia Britannica Online and the Health and Wellness Resource Centre
  • Local History collection
  • Public use photocopier (charges apply)
  • In library Internet access for research
  • Pre school storytime (Tuesdays, 10.30am)
  • School holiday activities
  • Internet access to email, social networking, banking, travel etc.  Site available to non-members and probationary members for a fee.

REQUEST/INFORMATION SERVICE

You have access to over 2.5 million items in public libraries throughout Western Australia. If an item in our stock is on loan, it can be reserved. If we don't have the item or information you want, please ask – we will try to get it for you.

HOME DELIVERY SERVICE

A home delivery service is available for Merredin town residents who have difficulty getting to the library due to frail health or limited mobility. Library staff select books for personal delivery. If you think you may be eligible, or know someone who needs this service please enquire with staff.
