What does an application for building license cost?

  • Residential building Class 1 (dwellings) and Class 10 (outbuildings, patios, carports, swimming pools etc) application fees –
    Building fee
    $40 minimum, or 0.3182% of construction cost or contract value (GST inclusive), whichever is the higher amount.
    Builders Registration Board Levy
    $35 must be paid on all Building Applications.
    Building and Construction Industry Training Levy Fund (BCITF)
    0.182% of construction cost or contract value (Only applicable for Building works valued above $20,000 – GST inc).
  • Commercial buildings Class 2 – 9 application fees –
    Building fee
    $40 minimum, or 0.182% of construction cost or contract value (GST inclusive), whichever is the higher amount.

    0.182% of construction cost or contract value (Only applicable for Building works valued above $20,000 – GST inc).
  • All applicable fees should be paid upon submission of the application for building license.
  • Owner/Builders undertaking works in excess of $12,000 in value must obtain an "Owner/Builders License" from the Builders Registration Board of WA (BRB) prior to submitting their application to the Shire of Merredin. A fee of $110.00 is charged by the BRB.
